So 2015 basically rocked in all aspects of life. Charlie finished medical school, started residency, took the kids on their first international adventure, moved into our dream house and my business more than doubled. Friends and family are doing well, big things are in the future and we are beyond excited to see what this new year has in store. I am so thankful that this is my life and I have the best partner and sidekicks around!
I hope 2016 is one that brings joy and laughter into your home!
Hello! I cannot believe how fast this holiday season has gone by! It was a total blur of childlike wonder, good food, happy memories, hardly any sleep and lots of snuggles with our new books! 🙂 It is by far my favorite time of the year. The only thing Karis wanted was a nutcracker doll, a purple hippo (not pictured) and her Disney Princess Ariel Palace lego set… which she got. A fun and simple list for our almost 4 year-old. Lukas just wanted cars and his own bike. I can’t wait to see all of the fun we are going to have with their new treasures and growing abilities in this new year. I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas!
Merry Christmas!!! I hope you all are having a great holiday with your loved ones! I am so excited to announce this year’s photo contest winners. For the first time we have a tie for second place, so we have 4 winners this year!
First place goes to the adorable Sofia Q! With her first birthday just a few months away, I am so excited to get the opportunity to photograph her again! YAY!
Third place goes to this beautiful family! With Baby #2 due this summer, this is so exciting!!!
When you husband has been working nonstop during the holiday season, him having the day off to join us for our annual Disney Christmas day is pretty much the best thing ever! Mickey waffles, Eeyore and Pooh joining us for a little chat, Lukas getting shy but then getting a mini game of hide-and-seek with Peter Pan and of course our Dumbo photo with Karis. A day off with my loved ones was just what this overly exhausted mama needed. 🙂
Karis needed her daddy time for sure. Thankfully during Lukas’s nap, she was able to steal some moments for just the two of them on the teacups and dancing around the Storybook ride. Warms my heart to see them together. Counting down until his next day off…
It is officially my favorite time of year. I never was big on Christmas until I had these little munchkins, now I literally cannot contain my excitement over celebrating with my family. So given that Charlie started another rough rotation this morning, we decided to deck the halls this past weekend… especially since the kids wake up at 5am now so we could fit it all in into one day. This year was more thrilling given that Karis is so much more involved in the process, planning out snacks for Santa’s reindeer and ensuring that there is always hot cocoa.
Excuse me while I explode with excitement over here. FINALLY the biggest secret I’ve ever had to keep is out in the open! My best friend got engaged last week and I could not be any happier for her and Rob. About a month ago, Rob called me and the planning began. I have never been so thrilled (and nervous) to have a “girls day.” Getting Lesley to take the bait to go up to Oak Glen for a photoshoot of her adorable puppy, getting her to the spot and then getting my camera ready in position was one the most heart-pounding experience. I mean, its not every day that you get to help plan and then photograph a surprise proposal for you best friend! Can you tell I’m still really really excited over here?!
Lesley told the story on Facebook and since her excitement is the best way of hearing the story here it is! Along with a few of my favorite photos from the day!
“Here’s the story, sorry it’s kind of long:
About a week ago Katie texted me and said “hey, my husband said he can watch the kids on Monday, wanna have a girls day?” Of course I did. I told her Rob was working that day (or so I thought) and asked her if we could do something where I could bring our dog, Paisley since I didn’t want to have to rush back home to let her out or feed her dinner etc.
Katie mentioned that Snow Line in Oak Glen had wine tasting and donuts and that dogs are allowed. So obviously I told her yes – I mean wine and donuts? How could any girl say no. Perfect girls day, right?
Katie is a professional photographer so I didn’t think much of it when she asked if she could take some pics of the dog with a new camera she just purchased. Once we got up to Oak Glen (where it was very, very cold by the way), we went in and got these amazing donuts – kind of like Redlands Market Night donuts for those of you who are familiar. Katie makes a comment about the light disappearing and we will come back for the donuts I ordered…okay…but they told me they would only take 4 minutes to be ready (they make them fresh to order).
Katie leads me to a row of apple orchards where my dog becomes obsessed with trying to eat all the fallen old apples on the ground. So I’m stumbling trying to get her to stop eating rotten apples while trying not to spill my hot apple cider I had bought to warm up. Katie suddenly stops and starts taking photos of Paisley. Ok cool. I’m now more focused on getting the dog to pose for the camera (impossible) and I see someone walk out from behind an orchard tree down the way. I instantly recognized Rob’s plaid flannel shirt and was momentarily confused. When I realized it was really him I was like “what are YOU doing here?!” All defensive. Hahaha. He had even told me how his day was at work down to “just brought a patient to the ER, it’s going good”. I truly believed he was at work! He even woke up and left the house in morning at 4:30am for his commute to Pasadena. He really drove to his parent’s house and went back to bed!
Anyway, he walked over to me smiling so big. Then I knew. He said some very sweet things, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I instantly said “yes of course!” And gave him a hug and kiss and then asked him “can I wear it? Is it really mine? It’s so perfect!” He then placed my dream ring on my finger. All the while Katie is just snapping photos and our dog continued to try to eat apples.
Rob walked back to the tree he was hiding behind and came back with a basket which had champagne, two glasses, the sign for Paisley saying “my humans are getting married” made by the talented Krissy Traustason, (guys she burned the lettering into the wood, so awesome) and some wedding planning magazines, and my “I said yes!” iPhone case from Katie.
Rob told me he had dinner reservations so we went downtown Redlands to The State for a drink to kill time and just let it all sink in, I’m curiously asking all these questions “did you ask my dad?” (Yes, of course he did – took him to dinner the night before. I thought he was helping a buddy move furniture). And “how long have you had the ring?” “Who else knows?” We laughed and enjoyed each others company until it was time to go to dinner…”
We ended up surprising Lesley again that night by having her close friends and family all waiting at the restaurant they went to celebrate. I could not have found a better guy than Rob to marry and take care of this amazing lady. I’m sure you all will hear me gush over and over again over the upcoming months while we plan their big day, but I am truly blessed to be surrounded by great people. Photographing these moments is just icing on the cake.
The day was absolutely perfect and when I say that surprise proposals are definitely my new favorite thing, I’m not lying! This whole process has reminded me to be spontaneous and of course that it is officially engagement season! Every year we do a discount for couples who are getting engaged during the holidays, but to make it even better for 2015 I decided to up the ante. 😉
So calling all engaged (or soon to be engaged) couples! This year we are offering a $400 discount to all wedding collections AND a free engagement session to 3 couples who send in their proposal story!
If you are planning a surprise proposal, contact me! I loved every moment of this engagement that I want to work with you! Contact me for details so we can get you engaged in style.
I hope you all are doing great, sorry for the super long post. My joy could not be contained!
What a big weekend for us, you are finishing your ridiculous month of night shift, celebrating Halloween with the kids, and of course moving into our new place. I am so thankful that through all the amazing (& scary) changes that life’s journey takes us through, you are there by my side. I could not have asked for a better partner and so today I am letting you know that you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. Happy Birthday Love! To many many more.
Happy Monday everyone! I am so excited to be kicking off the first week of a very very busy season! One pot of coffee is flowing through my veins and I am powering through a giant pile of laundry, emails and the list of to-dos; the perfect Monday morning. 😉 I wanted to share with you a few photos from this weekend’s adventures with Karis and Ellie (little brothers were there too, but more to come from the full afternoon). I have loved watching these awesome kiddos grow up and be such good friends, being only 3 weeks apart in age it is exciting to see them have a friend through some of life’s cutest moments. Two years ago, Ellie’s mama and I attempted a girly tutu session and got this single photo of the both looking in our direction. Lesson learned, being 18 months old is far too fun to sit still for photos! 🙂
I wanted to share that photo to show the difference time can make! They are both so tall, blonde hair is growing rapidly now, they both love to be girly and have adventures together. Here they are showing their ballet moves. Then enough of that standing still, we have things to discover!
Do you remember your first friend? I have been blessed with a few amazingly close and long-lasting friendships that mean the world to me. Observing my daughter learn the art of “girl talk,” playing dress up and having giggle fits absolutely warms my heart. I hope she finds those kindred spirits along the path of her life and she holds on to them with love and compassion.
A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.
Hope you all have a fabulous start to a new week!
